Self Care: Finding Balance in Your Everyday Life

Setting Boundaries

Finding a balance can be challenging in today's world. We have family, work, activities and other responsibilities that command our time. It can be overwhelming when we are split in many different directions, have limited resources or not enough support to delegate tasks.

It's so important to set boundaries when developing a self-care routine. You should decide a schedule that fits into your routine. It can be a few hours a day, once a week, once a month but try to stick with a regimen that works for you.

Direct Communication

It's important to share your plans or concerns with your spouse, family members, roommates, and friends so everyone will be on the same page. Sometimes, people will not understand that you need time alone but if you clearly express your concerns it will help them understand where you're coming from.

Eliminate the distractions

Evaluate the people in your circle. Do they encourage, motivate and inspire you on do they tear down, discourage on drain your energy? Eliminate any distractions that cause you stress or procrastination. Turn off your phone. Get off social media. It may be hard to cut family or friends out of your environment but you can keep them at an arm's distance.

Be mindful of your friends, co-workers, and associates. Remember people need to earn your trust as well as your time.

Eat healthy

Make it a priority to eat healthy meals. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It generates energy and clarity of mind. Plus, it aids in your overall health.

Drink water

It's so important to hydrate your body with eight cups of water per day. Your body is made up of water and your organs need water to operate and function correctly. It flushes out unwanted toxins and provides an energy boost.

Exercise

Make sure you move your body. The average person spends most of their day sitting so it's so important to get up and get moving! You can pick up a sport or activity where you can meet others so exercise doesn't feel like work but an activity that is fun and enjoyable.

Relax

Schedule time for breaks and time for rest. It doesn't have to be reserved for the weekends only. Make time during the week for some "Me" time moments. It can be as short as 15 minutes to as long as a few hours. Also, try getting to bed early so you can be replenished and refreshed. You can avoid negative vibes and mood swings if you focus on getting more rest at night. You will be amazed by how much your attitude shifts.

Plan to schedule downtime when no one is at home so you can indulge and embrace silence or soft music. Spend time to connect with your mind, body, and soul. It can include reading a good book, exercising, taking a bath or shower, prayer and meditation or anything else which brings you peace.

Pamper

Who doesn't love to get a facial, manicure or deep conditioning treatment? Take time out to shave your legs, cut your hair into a new style or buy a new outfit. When you take time to take care of yourself, it provides self-confidence and elevates your spirit. Overall, you will feel better about yourself. When you feel better about yourself, it reflects in all that you do.

Fuel Your Mind and Spirit

Live on purpose by putting your attention and focus on spiritual development. Read the Bible or attend a Bible study. Join a spirit-filled church. Spend time in prayer and meditation. Music fills the soul when you are feeling down or depressed so make sure you listen to your favorite playlist to uplift your mood. It's always a good idea to learn new things and gain fresh experiences and perspectives so you can keep growing in your faith and in life.
