Change in Season: How to Maintain Moisture During the Winter Blues
There are four key main ingredients that is essential to
maintaining moisture in natural hair during the harsh winter months.
- 1. Hot Oil Treatments
- 2. Deep Conditioner
- 3. Coconut Oil
- 4. Shea Butter
I also believe there are three main things to do once you
lock in the moisture. First, take
advantage of wearing your hair in a protective hairstyle. It is very beneficial
to protect the ends of the hair and allow it to rest during the cold, dry winter
season.
Second, it also helps to wear a silk or satin scarf under
wool, cotton or acrylic hats which tend to dry the hair and absorbing the oils
into the material leaving the hair feeling and looking dry and brittle.
Third, you do not need to wash your hair as often as you
do in the summer months because you will strip the hair of needed oils in the
hair. Plus, your hair does not feel as grimy in the winter due to lack of sweat
and humidity in the air.
With these quick shortcuts, I’m sure you will notice a
big difference in your overall appearance and your coils will say, “Thank you!”
